He studied material chemistry at the University of Jena, Germany, where he also received his Doctor of Natural Sciences (Dr. rer. nat.). His research focuses on water and sanitation, especially resource-oriented sanitation and non-sewered sanitation system. He is a member of IWA Specialist Group on Sanitation and Water Management in Low and Middle-Income Countries. He is also the editor of Journal of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Development. He serves as Secretary-general of Toilet Professional Committee under China Association of Urban Environmental Sanitation.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eMeiyan Li holds the position of Technical Director at CRRC Environmental Technology Co., Ltd.
