Technology & Engineering / Materials Science / Thin Films, Surfaces & Interfaces

This book presents the select proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Tribo-corrosion (ICTC 2024). It discusses the current practices and challenges in the tribo-corrosion area for improved efficiency and enhanced life of the machine components. It further covers the emerging technologies such as nano- and bio-compatible coatings, showcases the advancements in lubrication, bearings, and wear-resistant materials, and explores the influence of sustainability in tribo-corrosion. Various topics covered in this book are high temperature tribo-corrosion, lubricants and tribo-corrosion interactions, industrial tribo-corrosion and detection methods, models and mechanistic maps of tribo-corrosion, tribology in bio-medical applications and many more. This book is highly useful for the researchers and professionals working in the areas of material science, especially tribology.

Prof. Harish Hirani is the Director of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Jais, Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, India, and a Professor (Higher Administrative Grade) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. He previously served as Director of CSIR-CMERI (2016–2022) and as Vice Chairman of JEE Advanced at IIT Delhi (2014–2016). He has also been a member of several Government of India monitoring and advisory committees, including CSIR, SERB, and SATHI. His research focuses on eco-friendly waste management, waste-to-energy technologies, automatic waste segregation, resource recovery, and sustainable solutions for hazardous contaminants in drinking water. Prof. Hirani has successfully transferred 15 indigenous technologies to 55 MSMEs, significantly contributing to industrial innovation, environmental sustainability, and technology commercialization in India.

Dr. Jitendra Kumar Katiyar is an Associate Professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, India. He has over 10 years of teaching and research experience, with expertise in tribology, polymer composites, carbon-based materials, lubrication, surface engineering, coatings, and advanced manufacturing. He obtained his B.Tech. (Hons.) from UPTU Lucknow, M.Tech. from IIT Kanpur, and Ph.D. from IIT Kanpur. Dr. Katiyar has published over 140 journal articles, 44 conference papers, 22 book chapters, and 20 books with leading publishers, including Springer, Elsevier, and CRC Press. He serves as Associate Editor of the IMechE Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology and is a member of several editorial boards. He has also guest-edited special issues for leading international journals, reviewed for more than 40 journals, and delivered over 65 invited talks in tribology, composite materials, surface engineering, and advanced manufacturing.

Prof. T. V. V. L. N. Rao is the Dean (Planning & Monitoring) at MIT Art, Design and Technology University, Pune, Maharashtra, India. He earned his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and has extensive academic, research, and administrative experience in mechanical engineering.
