This book explores both the theoretical and practical aspects of balanced development in regional basic education in China. It addresses the contradiction between the societal demand for equitable, high-quality education and the imbalanced and insufficient development of education in China. By analyzing deep-rooted issues such as the spatial allocation of regional basic education resources, the mechanisms of digital empowerment, and inter-school disparities across the eight western provinces, this book proposes strategies for the balanced development of regional basic education in China. This book serves as a useful reference for education-related majors at higher education institutions,  as well as administrators and researchers in the field of balanced development of basic education.

Dr. WANG Shizhong graduated from Peking University with a Doctorate in Management, and is currently a professor, a doctoral supervisor, and a postdoctoral co-supervisor at the School of Education, South-Central Minzu University, China. His main research areas include education and social development in ethnic regions, construction of the Chinese national community, educational anthropology, and development anthropology. He specifically focuses on the studies of basic education reform and development, regional educational equity, and educational economics and finance. He has led and completed two research projects sponsored by the National Social Science Fund of China (including one key project), one sub-project of a national major bidding project, three provincial and ministerial-level key research projects, and more than ten provincial and ministerial general projects. He has published over 100 academic papers and authored/co-authored 28 books.

YANG Xiuli is a lecturer at the School of Foreign Languages, Nanjing Xiaozhuang University, China. She holds a master’s degree and specializes in British and American literature research. She was the principal investigator of the 2023 General Project of the Jiangsu Provincial Social Science Fund: “Research on American Neo-Realist Literature from the Perspective of Ecocriticism”, and the 2018 General Project of Philosophical and Social Science Research in Jiangsu Colleges and Universities: “American Modern Literature Viewed from the Perspective of Ecocriticism”.

GUI Lili is a lecturer at the School of Foreign Languages, Nanjing Xiaozhuang University, China. She is a PhD candidate at the School of Foreign Languages and Cultures, Nanjing Normal University, China. She has published several papers in both domestic and international academic journals. Her research interests include discourse analysis, cognitive linguistics, and education studies. She has been hosting/participating in research projects sponsored by Jiangsu Provincial Education Department and the National Social Science Fund of China.
