This book offers a fresh understanding and proposes a new research approach of Chinese silk, viewing silk weaving as a rich and dynamic system of linguistic symbols. It does not treat weaving as a static craft or material process, but rather explores how the act of weaving conveys meaning through bodily movement, rhythm, and interaction. Drawing on Daniel Chandler's constructivist semiotics, the book redefines silk as a cultural symbol capable of creating meaning through participation and performance.

Dr Yangzi Wang is a lecturer at the College of Textile Science and Engineering (International Institute of Silk), Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, and a PhD graduate of the University of the Arts London. Her research explores Chinese silk heritage, fibre art, and practice-based creative education. She has exhibited internationally, including at the From Lausanne to Beijing International Fibre Art Biennale (Shanghai Songjiang Special Exhibition), and received awards such as the China Patchwork Creative Design Competition Bronze and Silver Prizes.
