Recent Advances in Materials Processing and Characterization
Select Proceedings of RAMPC 2026
Ram Krishna | Chittaranjan Sahay
The book presents select peer-reviewed proceedings of the Second International Conference on Recent Advances in Materials Processing and Characterization (RAMPC 2026). The volume highlights the latest developments in materials engineering with a focus on innovative processing techniques, advanced characterization methods, and sustainable materials technologies. The book covers a wide range of emerging topics, including nanomaterials, additive manufacturing (3D and 4D printing), biomaterials, smart and functional materials, and advanced materials characterization techniques. It also explores the growing role of artificial intelligence and machine learning in materials processing, modelling, and performance evaluation, reflecting current interdisciplinary trends in materials science. With an emphasis on sustainable materials development and green processing technologies, the volume discusses solutions aimed at addressing global challenges such as carbon footprint reduction, climate change, and efficient resource utilization. Applications of advanced materials across various industrial sectors are also highlighted. Bringing together contributions from researchers, academicians, and industry professionals, this proceedings volume serves as a valuable reference for graduate students, scientists, and engineers working in materials science, materials processing, and advanced characterization technologies.
Dr. Ram Krishna is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur, India. He earned his Ph.D. in mechanics of materials from the University of Leicester, UK, and previously completed his M.Tech. from IIT Kanpur and B.Sc. (engineering) from NIT Jamshedpur. His research focuses on advanced materials processing, additive manufacturing, high-temperature alloys, nuclear materials, and sustainable energy materials. Dr. Krishna has held research positions at North Carolina State University (USA) and the University of Manchester (UK). He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and serves on the editorial board of Scientific Reports (Nature) and as Associate Editor of the Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science (SAGE). His current research emphasizes sustainable materials, materials informatics, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
Dr. Chittaranjan Sahay is the Vernon D. Roosa Distinguished Professor of manufacturing engineering and Professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Hartford, USA, where he also serves as Director of the Center for Manufacturing and Metrology. He earned his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from IIT Delhi, India, and previously completed his B.Sc. in mechanical engineering from Regional Institute of Technology (now NIT) Jamshedpur. Dr. Sahay has held academic positions at SUNY Binghamton and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Waterloo and University of Ottawa, Canada. His research focuses on manufacturing engineering, solid mechanics, metrology, and reliability engineering. A Fellow of ASME and Senior Member of SME, he has led several research projects with organizations such as NASA, Pratt & Whitney, and NIST, and is the author of the widely used book Introduction to Reliability Engineering.
