This book focuses on the structural behaviours of concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) structures at low temperature that relates to the cold regions. Its main contents include the material mechanical properties of steel and concrete at low temperatures, the steel tube-concrete interfacial bonding behaviour at low temperatures, the axial and eccentric compression behaviours of steel tubular structures at low temperatures, the axial and eccentric compression behaviours of CFST structures at low temperatures, the flexural bending behaviours of steel tubular and CFST structures at low temperatures, and the seismic behaviours of CFST structures at low temperatures. Based on the construction requirements of polar and cold-region engineering, this book establishes the fundamental theories and design methods for concrete-filled steel tubular structures at low temperatures, and addresses the critical challenges in the analysis and design of CFST structures at these cold regions. This book can be used as a textbook for undergraduates and postgraduates majoring in Civil Engineering in institutions of higher education. It also serves as a reference for designers, constructors and researchers engaged in steel-concrete composite structure engineering.
Jia-Bao Yan, Ph.D, is a Professor at Department of Civil Engineering, Tianjin University, P.R. China. He received his Doctoral Degree from National University of Singapore in 2012, and is currently the Deputy Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at Tianjin University, China. His research covers a wide spectrum of interests including steel-concrete composite structure, cold-region infrastructures, Arctic offshore structures, large span structures, lightweight and high strength materials, seismic and blast design, and marine and offshore installations. Prof. Yan has published more than 200 SCI indexed papers (first/corresponding authored papers are more than 170), 10 books (two published by Elsevier), and involving in drafting three Chinese codes (one is for steel-concrete-steel sandwich structures). He received several research awards, including the Best Paper Award from the International Journal of Steel Structures and Korea Society of Steel Institute.
Zhe Wang, Ph.D, is an Assistant Professor at Department of Civil Engineering, Tianjin University, P.R. China. Dr. Wang received his Doctoral Degree from Tianjin University in 2024. Dr. Wang focuses on the research of steel/FRP-concrete composite structures and cold-region materials and structures.
Ms. Yucai Zhao received her M.E. degree in Civil Engineering from Tianjin University, China. Ms. Zhao is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the School of Civil Engineering, Tianjin University, China. Ms. Zhao focuses on the seismic performance of steel-concrete composite bridges in cold regions.
Ms. Yixuan Wang received her M.E. degree in Civil and Hydraulic Engineering from Tianjin University, China. She has been pursuing her Ph.D. degree in Tianjin University since 2024. Her research mainly focuses on the reinforced concrete structures and composite structures at low temperatures.
