Sustainable Energy and Environmental Engineering
Shaharin Anwar Sulaiman
This book presents recent advances in renewable energy, sustainable conversion technologies, environmental engineering, and intelligent energy systems. The book explores hydrogen production, biomass conversion, photovoltaic technologies, green methanol, nanomaterials, micro-hydropower, energy storage, and circular engineering approaches. It also highlights emerging applications of artificial intelligence, digital twins, autonomous robotics, and integrated modeling for sustainable cities, water harvesting, energy management, and environmental protection. Bringing together interdisciplinary perspectives from diverse research areas, the book provides valuable insights into innovative technologies and engineering strategies for addressing global energy and environmental challenges and supporting the transition toward a sustainable, low-carbon future.
Shaharin Anwar Sulaiman is Professor with the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Brunei Darussalam. He received his B.Sc. in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University, USA, his M.Sc. in thermal power and fluids engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), UK, and his Ph.D. in combustion from the University of Leeds, UK. Prior to joining academia in 1998, he worked as Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Engineer with YTL Construction.
Professor Shaharin's research spans sustainable energy and thermal engineering, with particular interests in renewable energy, biomass conversion, hydrogen energy, solar energy systems, combustion, fluid flow, artificial intelligence in energy systems, and environmental engineering. His work focuses on developing innovative engineering solutions that enhance energy efficiency, promote environmental sustainability, and support the global transition toward a low-carbon future.
