Bioactive Compounds in Fruits
Functional Properties and Therapeutic Insights
Tridip Kumar Hazarika | Pinku Chandra Nath | Sudip Kumar Dutta
This book presents a comprehensive overview of fruit-derived bioactive compounds and their roles in promoting human health and disease prevention. It examines the natural constituents of fruits and highlights their functional relevance in nutrition and health research, integrating their chemical characteristics, biological activities, and therapeutic potential.
The chapters cover major classes of fruit bioactives, including polyphenols, carotenoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, phenolic acids, tannins, dietary fibers, vitamins, and minerals. The book discusses their molecular diversity, metabolic pathways, and physiological roles in oxidative balance, cardioprotection, neuroprotection, antimicrobial activity, metabolic regulation, and immunomodulation. It also addresses advances in extraction techniques, nanoencapsulation, and delivery systems, along with the application of fruit bioactives in functional foods and nutraceuticals.
It serves as a useful resource for researchers, academicians, nutritionists, healthcare professionals, food technologists, and postgraduate students in life sciences, nutritional biochemistry, and functional food research.
