Animal Navigation Across Space and Time
Insights from New Approaches
Koichi Hashimoto | Hiraku Nishimori | Shizuko Hiryu
This book presents the recent navigation research in various animal individuals and groups including humans. It covers a wide range of topics from ecology to neuroscience, as well as mathematical studies and the latest data science such as artificial intelligence.
Navigation is essential for biological behavior and is a fundamental mechanism that supports both biological and human societies. The first large-scale collaborative research project on biological navigation developed in Japan produced a number of innovative fusion studies across multiple academic disciplines. The book describes valuable wildlife movement data, biological navigation modeling studies using mathematical biology, new data science methods for solving individual and population interaction problems, and measurement techniques that have revolutionized navigation research. This edited volume provides an immediate and broad overview of the latest developments in navigation research, a fascinating and spectacular scientific problem.
The book is intended for academics in various research fields, particularly those interested in fusion research connecting biology and information technology under the subject of bio-navigation, specifically, students and researchers in ecology, animal behavior, neuroscience, mathematical biology, AI research, and robotics.
