Designing Sustainable Geosynthetics Infrastructures, Volume I

Jnanendra Nath Mandal | Sushovan Dutta | Purnanand P. Savoikar

Technology & Engineering / Civil / Soil & Rock

This textbook introduces the fundamentals, properties, functions, design, and applications of geosynthetics in civil engineering. It explains the characteristics of polymer-based geosynthetic materials and provides guidance on their selection, design, durability, and use in engineering applications.

The book covers the principal functions of geosynthetics, including separation, filtration, reinforcement, drainage, and containment. It examines their use in geotechnical, transportation, environmental, hydraulic, mining, and infrastructure engineering, with applications to soil stabilization, erosion control, drainage, and ground improvement.

Examples and applications include roads and highways, railways, embankments, dams, landfills, reinforced soil structures, and slope stabilization. The book also considers the role of geosynthetics in reducing material requirements, improving construction performance, and addressing environmental and sustainability considerations in infrastructure projects.

Combining fundamental concepts with design considerations and engineering applications, the textbook is intended primarily for undergraduate and postgraduate students in civil and geotechnical engineering. It will also be useful to engineers and practitioners seeking an introduction to the selection and application of geosynthetic materials.
