Manmohan Dass Goel | Prem Krishna | Arvind Y. Vyavahare | Ashish P. Khatri
This book presents select peer-reviewed proceedings of the XI National Conference on Wind Engineering (NCWE 2025). It covers wind loading, wind tunnel testing, computational and experimental wind engineering, AI/ML applications, wind-resilient structures, IS codes and standards, wind climate assessment, field measurements, bluff body aerodynamics, high-rise buildings, bridges, chimneys and towers, façade and hoarding wind loads, interference studies, urban wind environment, wind-induced vibration and control, disaster mitigation, wind meteorology, wind energy and turbines, and industrial aerodynamics. The proceedings will be useful to designers, academicians, students, researchers, engineers, and industry professionals involved in the analysis, design, assessment, and development of wind-resilient structures and infrastructure.
Manmohan Dass Goel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Mechanics at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, India. He completed his B.E. in civil engineering from Yeshwantrao Chavan College of Engineering, Nagpur, in 2000, from Nagpur University. He obtained his M. Tech. in offshore engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 2003 and his Ph.D. from IIT Delhi and the University of the Federal Armed Forces, Munich, Germany, under a DAAD Sandwich Fellowship. His doctoral research focused on “Blast Response of Structures and Its Mitigation Using Advanced Lightweight Materials”. He served as a Scientist at CSIR-AMPRI, Bhopal, and CSIR-NEERI, Nagpur. Recognitions include the CSIR Young Scientist Award, INAE Innovative Student Project Award, Young Engineer Award, Surendranath Mukherjee Memorial Medal, and IGS-HEICO Biennial Award. His research interests include blast analysis, blast-resistant structures, lightweight and composite materials, strain-rate characterization, computational mechanics, and structural protection systems under blast and impact loading.
Prem Krishna is a former Professor of civil engineering at the University of Roorkee, now IIT Roorkee. He was involved in the development of wind engineering research in India from 1978 and led a group working on wind engineering and industrial aerodynamics, including the development of experimental wind-tunnel facilities. He served as President of the International Association for Wind Engineering (IAWE) from 1991 to 1995, also received a certificate of recognition from IAWE. He initiated the Asia-Pacific Symposium on Wind Engineering at the University of Roorkee in 1985 and was involved in establishing the Indian Society of Wind Engineering in 1993, serving as its first President.
His professional activities include work on wind disaster mitigation, wind effects on structures, and wind-related design standards. He was a member of the expert group involved in preparing the Vulnerability Atlas of India and served as Chairman of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Sectional Committee on Cyclone Resistant Structures. His research interests include wind engineering, industrial aerodynamics, wind effects on structures, wind disaster mitigation, and wind-resistant structural design.
Arvind Y. Vyavahare has a background in structural engineering. He graduated from Government Engineering College, Aurangabad, Maharashtra, and subsequently completed a Master’s degree in structural engineering and a Ph.D. from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur. He received a UGC Research Fellowship and was associated with the Structural Dynamics Laboratory at CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre, Chennai. He was also involved in establishing the Advanced Seismic Testing & Research (ASTaR) Laboratory. In 2006, Dr. Vyavahare joined the Department of Applied Mechanics at VNIT, Nagpur, where he has been involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in civil and structural engineering. His research interests include structural design, advanced finite element analysis, structural health monitoring, and rehabilitation of structures. He has guided postgraduate and Ph.D. scholars in structural engineering, including research on shear buckling of plate girders and cold-formed steel sections. He has contributed research papers to international journals. His research interests encompass structural analysis, computational methods, structural health monitoring, and the assessment and rehabilitation of structures.
A. P. Khatri is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Mechanics at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, India. He received his B.E. in civil engineering in 2001, M. Tech. in structural engineering in 2003, and Ph.D. in structural engineering in 2017.
From 2003 to 2008, Dr. Khatri worked in the construction and structural engineering industry, where he was involved in the design of residential and office buildings for government organizations and private-sector. He subsequently pursued an academic career in teaching and research in structural engineering and applied mechanics. His research interests include steel structures, reinforced concrete structures, composite structures, buckling analysis, nonlinear structural analysis, and structural fire behavior. His research work has been published in journals and presented at national and international conferences. He is also a life member of professional institutions and associations related to engineering, civil engineering, and structural engineering. His academic and research activities focus on structural analysis, design, and the behavior of structural systems under different loading and environmental conditions.
