Diverse eco-friendly synthesis routes are tapped using waste biomass, industrial byproducts, and microorganisms to minimize waste, energy utilization, and toxic solvents in synthesis processes while enhancing overall process efficiency. This book contrasts conventional chemical methods with biological alternatives and green solvents addressing key challenges in yield optimization, purity, and commercialization of green synthesis derived biochemicals for biomedical, agriculture, food, energy and environment sectors. Green synthesis of plant-based metal oxide nanoparticles and nanocellulose has been covered for potential applications in biomedical and agricultural sectors. Sustainable approaches in downstream processing of biochemical, viz., green crystallization approaches have been focused for synthesis of functional hybrid biomaterials for energy harvesting applications. Biobased hydrogels have also been taken into account for sequestration of atmospheric carbon dioxide and biomedical applications. Moreover, this book addresses crucial aspects of process automation for production of sustainable biochemicals which is imperative for their commercial scale production. The mechanistic insights alongside real-world applications and circular economy models are further discussed. Life cycle assessment approaches integrated with AI/ML have been covered for evaluating the environmental impact from green synthesis routes which can serve as baseline data for benchmarking. This comprehensive resource serves researchers, PhD scholars, industry professionals, and policymakers in advancing interdisciplinary strategies to accelerate the transition to sustainable manufacturing processes globally.

Dr. Althuri Avanthi is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Biotechnology, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad.
