Introducing Sociological Theology and Preaching in the Contemporary Catholic Church
Vivencio O. Ballano
This book introduces sociological theology and preaching in the contemporary Catholic Church. It clarifies the crucial role of sociology in updating the current philosophical approach of Catholic theology and Church evangelization to enable theologians and preachers to scientifically understand the behavioral and structural complexities of the postmodern world and appropriately inculturate or adapt church doctrines in people’s lived experiences in spirit of Pope Francis’s inductive contextual theology. It investigates the limitations of the rational approach of philosophy and philosophical theology for the descriptive and prescriptive dimensions of Catholic theology today. It also attempts to introduce sociological theology in dogmatic theology as well as in moral theology, inculturation theology, ecclesiology, and homiletical theology. This book appeals to Church authorities, theologians, as well as scholars and students of theology, sociology, religion, and religious studies.
