This book explores how the smallest vibrational events can unfold into resonant worlds. Drawing from philosophy, media theory, and sound studies, the book develops a theory of “vibrational ontogenesis,” or the idea that beings and relations emerge through vibration itself rather than pre-existing outside of it. Across analyses of embodiment, mediation, and collective coordination, the book shows how solitude, proximity, and resonance converge to reshape responsibility and relation, speaking to scholars of sound studies and media theory while also engaging readers interested in the ethical and ecological stakes of vibration.

Mickey Vallee is Professor and Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in Sound Studies at Athabasca University, Canada. His research spans sound studies, philosophy, and cultural theory, with a focus on vibration, resonance, and relation. He is the author of Sounding Bodies Sounding Worlds (Palgrave Macmillan, 2020).
