Sustainable Development in Water Scarcity Areas of Semi-arid Region

Science / Environmental Science

Water scarcity is one of the most pressing challenges faced by semi-arid regions worldwide. These areas, often characterized by low and erratic rainfall, high evaporation rates, and limited freshwater resources, are home to millions of people whose livelihoods depend heavily on agriculture, industry, and domestic water use. As climate change intensifies, these regions are expected to experience even more frequent droughts and shifting rainfall patterns. They diminish water availability and put further strain on already vulnerable water systems.

This book provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to address the challenges of water scarcity in these fragile environments. By focusing on the integration of cutting-edge technologies, sustainable land-use practices, and community-driven solutions, the book presents a multi-dimensional perspective on how semi-arid regions can achieve sustainable development while managing their scarce water resources effectively. The volume also explores key themes related to water scarcity, examining technological, ecological, social, and policy-based solutions. The goal is to equip stakeholders, policymakers, water resource managers, environmental scientists, and community leaders with the knowledge and tools to develop and implement strategies that ensure equitable, efficient, and sustainable water use in semi-arid regions.
