This book introduces the downhole engineering cybernetics—a new subdiscipline focusing on the downhole control engineering of oil and gas wells by using the principles and methods of engineering cybernetics. It covers four main parts:

① theoretical basis—downhole system dynamics, control signal analysis;

② technological basis—design of downhole control mechanism, downhole parameter acquisition, and transmission technology;

③ laboratory construction and experimental methods;

④ product development—downhole control systems and tools. This book is a valuable reference both for researchers and engineers in the relevant fields.

Yinao Su is a leading expert in oil and gas drilling engineering. He is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) (since 2003), professoriate senior engineer, and doctoral supervisor. He was previously the vice president of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) Drilling Research Institute (now Engineering Technology R&D Company Limited), director of National Engineering Laboratory for Oil and Gas Drilling, and member of the standing committee of Beijing Association for Science and Technology and is currently the director of the Energy and Mining Engineering Academic Division of CAE, member of China Association for Science and Technology(CAST), president of China Society for Vibration Engineering (CSVE), member of Strategic Advisory Committee of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NNSFC), editor-in-chief of Journal of Vibration Engineering and Frontier in Energy, and editorial board member of Acta Petrolei Sinica as well as several other academic journals.
