Challenges male-dominated narratives in African philosophy and highlights contributions of women philosophers.

This book recovers silenced histories through critical engagement and unveils a balanced, inclusive, transformative, and comprehensive framework for doing philosophy in an African context. The volume begins in part I by analyzing the concepts of Afro-communitarianism, personhood, transhumanism, and the ethics of artificial intelligence. The contributors consider AE Chimakonam's personhood-based theory of right action, Diana Ofana's analysis of AI and personhood through the lens of Botho's ethics, and free will as the basis of a normal moral account within Afro-communitarian philosophy. Part II interrogates global justice and intercultural philosophy. Contributors examine Christiana Idika's emenyere principle of justice, Southern and Western African approaches to restorative justice, the colonization of African epistemic experiences, and international justice as a mechanism of state-building. The final part takes “her-storical” perspectives further: addressing the annihilation of male supremacist thought, positing a reconstruction of feminism that focuses on Black women's liberatory strategies, and going beyond gender (history and her-story) to our-story. Her-Storical Perspectives in African Philosophy fills the epistemic gap in the current knowledge production on the history of African Philosophy in which the perspective and contributions of women in African philosophy are often undermined.
