Gabriel Green present a leadership development model that fundamentally reimagines
leadership - not as a hierarchical function, but as a relational, inclusive, and transformative
practice.
The Impact Leadership model takes a multimodal, interdisciplinary, and communitybased
approach to address the challenges of access and representation in leadership.
Through its central tenets - Community/Cultural; Academic/Applied; Psychodynamic/
Psychological; and Spiritual/Systemic elements (CAPS) - this model and practice prepare
leaders to identify, interpret, and address complex problems in their own communities.
With an emphasis on building the capacity to confront intractable issues such as income
inequality, decreased social capital, and a hostile political environment, Forbes and Green
strengthen our understanding of how to enact sustainable transformation in different
contexts and offer further recommendations for expanding leadership development and
advancing models that promote representative leadership more broadly.

Diane Forbes Berthoud is Vice President, Chief Inclusive Excellence and Institutional Effectiveness Officer, and a professor in the School of Graduate Studies at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, USA. She is also founding faculty (emeritus) of the RISE San Diego Leadership Program and affiliate faculty in Leadership Studies at the Elliot School of International Affairs of George Washington University, USA.

Zachary Green is Distinguished Professor of Practice in Leadership Studies and Senior Director of Leadership Development in The Nonprofit Institute at the University of San Diego, USA. He is also a lecturer in the Harvard Graduate School of Education, USA and founding lead faculty of the Leadership Coaching Program and RISE Urban Leadership Fellows Program at RISE San Diego, USA.
