It involves a complex network of literary, cinematic, theatrical, and media texts moving between Sinitic languages and other languages including Danish, German, Japanese, English, and Italian. Through this study, the contributors highlight the ways in which queer translation and literature in the Sinosphere encounter, intersect, and interplay textually, culturally, and temporally.

The chapters explore themes such as the fluidity of gender and language, translation beyond traditional source–target binaries, and creative or resistant strategies of translation. Collectively, these chapters explore the theoretical and practical implications of queer/ing translation, including the dismantling of binary models of exchange structured around fixed origins and endpoints, and the contextualisation of the transnational circulation of queerness in relation to gender, sexuality, and desire. They also extend beyond linguistic translation to consider translation across media and cultural forms.

The book assesses queer translation theories and practices as critical interventions in the Sinospheric contexts, contributing to the queering of translation studies.

Yahia Zhengtang Ma is a Queer Translation Studies scholar with a PhD from the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Hongwei Bao is Professor in Chinese Studies at the University of St Andrews, UK.

Publication Date:

05 August 2027

Publisher:

Bloomsbury Academic

Imprint:

Bloomsbury Academic

ISBN-13:

9798216460312

Format:

Hardback

Page Count:

272

Weight (oz):

16.0

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0710/9545/1788/files/getimage_eb8911f1-1797-4f58-a0b9-8ea085300b40.jpg?v=1791347542
