Cases in Museum Management
Challenges and Opportunities
Matthew Hayes
Business & Economics / Museum Administration & Museology
The issues facing museums today have often become focused less on traditional museum disciplines. Instead, they embody local, national, and international issues that infiltrate the museum environment. This book addresses not only the changing situations museum professionals are dealing with, but it also considers the way in which academic learning and on the job professional development occur. Cases in Museum Management encourages discussions about timeless issues, but in today's context. Whether it is AI, protestors, preserving digital history subjects, NDAs and aggressive document retention policies, or living in a world of misinformation, these case studies will provide engaging, relevant, and timely discussions in the learning settings that are currently available to museum students and professionals.
Matthew Hayes is the President and CEO of The Museum of Flight (MOF) in Seattle, WA, the largest non-governmental air and space museum in the world. In 2006, Matt joined MOF and held a series of positions overseeing finance, administration, human resources, later adding education, curatorial, and collections. In 2017, he became President and CEO of MOF.
