This book represents an abridged version of Aristophanes' Birds. It is a selection of the easier and more obviously amusing scenes of the Birds, and is linked together to form a continuous play.
A useful Introduction gives background on the theatre and City Dionysia. The Greek text is accompanied by notes, synopses of omitted parts, full stage directions and help with interpretation. There are appendixes on principal metres and particles.
