Practical Applications of the Fractional Fourier Transform Using MatLab
Seema Sud
Fractional Fourier Transform (FrFT), a highly useful signal processing tool, using simple mathematical equations, illustrations, and MATLAB code with numerous examples. The first two chapters provide a brief introduction and the mathematical background of the FrFT. Chapters 3 through 15 present new algorithms for the FrFT, complete with detailed code and examples. These chapters cover several new applications and algorithms using the FrFT, including co-channel interference separation for communications, speech processing, modulation, channel estimation, echo separation in radar, enhancements in digital image watermarking, and twin fetal heartbeat separation. Chapter 16 describes a concept for FrFT spectrum analyzer hardware.
- Applies a single technique, the Fractional Fourier Transform (FrFT), across a wide array of technical fields, rather than covering multiple techniques within a single field.
- Equips readers with a thorough understanding of the FrFT, showing what it is and what it can do.
- Offers examples across diverse fields, from communications to image processing and seismology to biomedicine, providing tools that enhance signal processing applications.
- Demonstrates the FrFT's applications across multiple fields, offering insight into the potential for such signal processing methods to advance research and extend applications to fields not yet explored.
Dr. Seema Sud is a wireless communications engineer with 33 years of work experience and is currently a Distinguished Scientist and Engineer/Technical Fellow at the Aerospace Corporation. She was the recipient of the three-year Bradley research fellowship at Virginia Tech in 1999, where she pursued a Ph.D., and the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) post-doctoral research fellowship at George Mason University (GMU) in 2002. In 2020, Seema received the Aerospace Woman of the Year award. Seema’s experience spans the fields of RF and optical communications, signal processing, radar, GPS, biomedical, and image processing. Seema has 22 years of teaching experience in RF wireless communications, both as an affiliate professor in the graduate telecommunications program at GMU and as an instructor for The Aerospace Corporation. She has won about 45 awards, holds 10 patents related to signal processing methods in wireless systems, and has published over 60 papers.
