Occupational Therapy Fieldwork and the Capstone Experience
The Complete Student Guide
Kirsten Davin | Kaitlyn Cremer
Occupational Therapy Fieldwork and the Capstone Experience is the complete guide for Occupational Therapy (OT) students embarking on both clinical fieldwork and capstone experiences
Written directly to the student, the book provides practical tools and guidance for the entirety of the fieldwork and capstone journey: from entering Level I fieldwork and progressing through Level II fieldwork, to designing and completing the doctoral capstone experience and project. Rather than simply describing what students are expected to accomplish, it helps them understand how to approach these experiences, make thoughtful decisions, respond to challenges, and grow into increasingly independent professionals. Key topics include:
- communication and professionalism,
- clinical documentation,
- critical thinking,
- ethical considerations,
- work-life balance,
- leadership,and lifelong learning.
Throughout the book, practical tools, examples, guided activities, and student resources help readers connect academic preparation with the realities of fieldwork and capstone experiences. Student-focused yet supportive of OTD programs, the book covers core educational and experiential learning practices without imposing program-specific rules, therefore letting institutions apply their own policies while integrating it into the existing fieldwork and capstone curricula.
An essential resource for every OTD student, the book provides the insight and guidance needed to thrive in fieldwork and capstone experiences, allowing readers to move confidently from the classroom into practice, and offering an essential foundation to grow, adapt, and succeed throughout a lifelong career in occupational therapy.
The print book is also supported by a range of online resources, including self-assessment exercises, documentation templates, and interactive activities, which are available at www.routledge.com/9781041077855.
