AI in Language Education and Communication
Professional and Intercultural Contexts in Language Education
Amily Wang Guénier | Henghua Su | Minjie Xing
This collection examines the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on language education and intercultural communication across global contexts.
Organized into three sections, the book begins with theoretical foundations, addressing educators’ and learners’ perspectives on AI and its pedagogical implications. The second section presents empirical studies on AI’s role in developing language skills such as pronunciation, writing, and oral communication. The final section focuses on specialized applications with an intercultural focus, including intercultural business communication and health communication. Contributions from established and emerging scholars across language education, professional and intercultural communication contexts provide evidence-based insights, innovative strategies, and critical perspectives on AI’s opportunities and limitations, with particular attention to Chinese and multilingual contexts. Offering a unique look into the impact of AI on language education and intercultural practices in one of the largest and most dynamic language learning communities in the world, the book in turn highlights the wider implications for understanding the AI landscape in these contexts on a global scale.
This book will appeal to students and scholars in applied linguistics, intercultural communication, computer-assisted language learning, and educational technology, as well as educators, curriculum designers, and policymakers seeking to integrate AI into pedagogical design while addressing its ethical and intercultural challenges.
