Anti-Black Racism
The False Dilemma between Politics and Morality
Frank Aragbonfoh Abumere
Using Hans-Georg Gadamer’s fusion of horizons and drawing on thinkers like Ali A. Mazrui, W.E.B. Du Bois, Frantz Fanon, Charles Mill, and Achille Mbembe, Abumere diagnoses the historical and contemporary dehumanization of Black people across Africa and the diaspora. He introduces the concept of the Black condition and argues that slavery, colonialism, and apartheid are not just historical events but enduring legacies. Divided into two parts (Diagnosis and Remedy), Abumere combines descriptive and normative analysis to propose a morally grounded, politically plausible path forward.
Anti-Black Racism is written for scholars in political theory, African and diaspora studies, ethics, and critical race theory. It will also resonate with policymakers, activists, and students seeking a deeper understanding of how power, morality, and history intersect in the ongoing struggle against anti-Black racism. With its accessible and engaging style, it invites readers to rethink entrenched assumptions and confront the ethical imperatives of justice.
