The updated comprehensive veterinary anaesthesia reference

Veterinary Anaesthesia: Principles to Practice, now in its third edition, covers the key anaesthetic principles in a single, accessible volume. Updated throughout, this revised edition reflects recent developments in sedative, anaesthetic and analgesic agents, anaesthetic adjuncts, patient monitoring, and resuscitation guidelines, whilst maintaining the accessible format with both technical and species-based chapters including canine, feline, equine, farm animal species and also rabbits, praised by readers of the previous editions.

Notable updates include local and regional anaesthetic techniques with further details on the use of ultrasound guidance, new monitoring equipment, expanded information on sepsis and shock, up to date research on equine anaesthesia, and an introduction to sustainability in veterinary anaesthesia.

Readers will also find:

  • Updated sedative and anaesthetic protocols reflecting the latest developments in veterinary pharmacology across multiple species
  • Updated cardiopulmonary resuscitation information for small animals and horses, including neonates
  • New material on monitoring equipment and ultrasound-guided local/regional anaesthetic techniques, now standard in clinical veterinary anaesthesia practice
  • Sustainability and eco-friendly anaesthesia considerations woven throughout the text to address growing environmental priorities in veterinary medicine
  • Detailed physiological and pharmacological foundations supporting preparation for ECVAA, ACVAA, and RCVS Certificate-level examinations

Written by a team of ECVAA Diplomates and RCVS Fellows, Veterinary Anaesthesia: Principles to Practice is designed for veterinary students, practising veterinarians, advanced veterinary nurses and technicians, and candidates preparing for RCVS, ECVAA, ACVAA, or ANZCVS anaesthesia qualifications. For reference or study, this text provides the clinical depth and species breadth required at every career stage.
