Fault-tolerant multiphase motor drive design, control, and real-world application
Multiphase motor drives offer superior fault tolerance and reduced harmonic distortion compared to conventional three-phase systems, yet consolidated technical references remain scarce. Advanced Multiphase Motor Drives provides coverage of mathematical models, control strategies, fault diagnosis methods, and system optimization for five-phase, six-phase, and other multiphase configurations.
The book examines novel motor topologies including open-end winding and series-end winding configurations alongside advanced predictive controllers that optimize efficiency and reduce harmonic distortion. Detailed design case studies address electric vehicle traction, marine propulsion, and renewable energy integration.
Readers will also find:
- Fault-tolerant design principles that ensure uninterrupted operation under open-circuit and short-circuit phase failure conditions in critical systems
- Comparative analysis of diverse drive topologies with selection criteria matched to specific application requirements and operating environments
- Advanced predictive control algorithms formulated for multiphase systems with detailed derivations and simulation-based performance validation
- Real-world application cases spanning electrified transportation, shipboard propulsion, and distributed generation tied to modern power grids
- Accompanying design case studies and teaching slides that support graduate-level coursework and professional development training programs
Written for graduate students, PhD candidates, and researchers in power electronics and control engineering, this book also serves energy system and design engineers working on electrified vehicles, marine propulsion, and renewable energy systems who require rigorous, application-oriented treatment of multiphase motor drive technology.
