A practical framework for high-voltage substation maintenance scheduling

As power infrastructure ages under increasing demand, fixed-schedule maintenance fails to prevent costly substation failures. Condition Assessment of Power System Substation for Maintenance Scheduling delivers a unified framework connecting condition monitoring, failure mode analysis, and scheduling for high-voltage equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, switchgears, insulators, and cables, aligned with ISO 55000, CIGRE, and IEC standards.

The book progresses from corrective and time-based maintenance philosophies through reliability-centered maintenance and condition-based maintenance implementation. It details sensor-based condition monitoring, diagnostic tools, and data interpretation techniques required for effective CBM deployment. Decision-making frameworks for maintenance prioritization and a comparative analysis of planning software tools support the transition from reactive to proactive strategies.

Readers will also find:

  • Actionable tools for prioritizing maintenance tasks based on failure probability, criticality indices, and real-time asset condition data
  • Methods for integrating failure analytics and digital monitoring systems into existing utility maintenance planning workflows and processes
  • Guidance on scheduling approaches that reduce lifecycle costs while improving system reliability and operational resilience across transmission networks
  • Coverage of high-voltage equipment-specific failure modes relevant to transformers, circuit breakers, switchgears, insulators, and underground cable systems
  • Alignment with international asset management standards supporting regulatory compliance and strategic digital transformation initiatives in utility organizations

Written for asset managers, utility operations professionals, and maintenance department leaders responsible for high-voltage transmission infrastructure, this book provides the integrated methodology needed to implement condition-based and reliability-centered maintenance strategies. Researchers and graduate students in power systems engineering will also find it a rigorous reference.
