Postdigital Nature Connection

Entangling Ecologies and Technologies

Jack Reed

Education / General

This edited volume explores how digital technologies and human–nature relationships are increasingly entangled, reshaping what it means to connect with nature in the twenty-first century. Introducing postdigital nature connection as a conceptual and empirical field, it challenges binaries between the digital and the natural, positioning nature relations within a hybrid, hypermediated sociotechnical landscape. Drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives, contributions examine themes such as hybridity, AI–nature relations, datafication, and decolonial approaches, offering new tools and insights for researchers, educators, and policymakers navigating the cultural, political, and technological forces shaping ecological futures.

Jack Reed is Head of Research at Estyn, the education and training inspectorate for Wales, UK. He previously held a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Exeter, UK, where he developed and prepared this book. His research has investigated how human–nature relations inform policy, practice, and regional development, emphasizing socio-economic dimensions of nature recovery. His work has also extended to postdigital theory, analyzing how networked technologies influence engagements with nature. Building on his 2023 PhD from Edinburgh, UK, he has published extensively across scholarly and policy platforms.
