Damage, Durability, Damage Tolerance of Composites
Subramani Sockalingam | Behrad Koohbor
This book presents the proceedings of the American Society for Composites 40th Technical Conference. This book highlights early findings and studies on both fundamental and applied aspects of performance and durability of composites, featuring papers on durability and damage tolerance, fatigue in composites, micromechanics and multiscale modeling, and analysis, testing, and material characterization. The concepts and techniques presented here have broad implications for design, manufacturing, and characterization, making this collection a valuable resource for engineers, research scientists, educators, and students. We extend our warm thanks to all contributors for sharing their work and making this volume possible. We are equally thankful to the reviewers, whose time, effort, and valuable feedback greatly contributed to maintaining the quality of this volume. We also extend our sincere appreciation to the organizing committee for their hard work and commitment in ensuring a successful and well-coordinated conference.
Dr. Subramani “Mani” Sockalingam is an associate professor in Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Carolina (USC). Dr. Sockalingam received his Ph.D. from the University of Delaware Center for Composite Materials and a Master’s from the University of Cincinnati, both in Mechanical Engineering. Additionally, he has six years of industrial experience in the automotive and defense sectors. His technical interests include the dynamic behavior of composite materials, inverse methodologies for high-throughput material characterization, novel architectured composite material designs for enhancing structural performance, test methods for evaluating high-strain-rate delamination, and automated fiber placement manufacturing.
Dr. Behrad Koohbor is an associate professor of Mechanical Engineering at Rowan University. Dr. Koohbor received his Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. Before joining Rowan University in 2019, Dr. Koohbor completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Koohbor is interested in understanding the relationships between process, structure, property, and performance in advanced materials and structures. His lab employs various measurement techniques to investigate the origins of temperature-dependent and rate-sensitive responses in advanced materials and structures at multiple length and time scales. He has been a member of ASC since 2015.
