Applied Aeroelasticity and Structural Dynamics bridges the gap between theory and practice. In addition to the theoretical foundations typically presented in traditional texts, this book emphasizes how aeroelasticity is actually applied in industry using modern computational tools. Much of the material is based on approaches developed over time to help new aeroelasticians build practical understanding and contribute more quickly in an industry environment. 

Exercises progress from computer-aided design (CAD) to finite element modeling (FEM) to analysis, following the same workflow used in industry. Three major software suites are used: Simcenter HyperWorks/Optistruct, MSC Patran/Nastran, and Simcenter Femap/Nastran, allowing the material to be applied regardless of the reader's preferred toolset. The book includes two complete worked models, a cantilever wing and a full aircraft, used to perform static and dynamic analyses, aeroelastic loads analyses, and aeroelastic stability (flutter) analyses. It follows a real-world development flow from model build to analysis to correlation. In addition to core methods, it includes discussions on aerodynamic correlation, ground vibration testing, flight testing, and advanced aeroelastic topics. The goal is not only to explain the underlying physics, but also to show how those concepts are implemented, interpreted, and used to make engineering decisions.

This practical book, written by a practicing aeroelastician, focuses on how engineers build models, run analyses, and solve real-world aeroelastic problems to design and certify aircraft, reflecting the workflows, assumptions, and challenges encountered in industry. It equips readers with tools and methods they can apply directly to their work, whether they are just starting to learn about aeroelasticity, designing an RC aircraft, or are already experts in the field.

Corey Marshall began his career at Boeing as a stress engineer, focusing on structural dynamics and aeroacoustics. He received dual bachelor's degrees in Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and earned a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering and an MBA from the University of Washington. After gaining experience working in structural dynamics and finite element analyses, Corey focused his career on aeroelasticity and has worked in that field ever since. Today, he is a Technical Specialist in Loads and Dynamics at Gulfstream. He enjoys supporting other teams in multidisciplinary dynamic analyses, methods development, aeroservoelasticity, and mentoring new aeroelasticians. He has been involved in the design and analysis of over 15 aircraft and four spacecraft. He is a member of the Structural Dynamics Technical Committee and the Aerospace Flutter and Dynamics Council.
