It provides a richly documented exploration of her collaboration with Allen Ginsberg, showing how their relationship reshaped the Italian literary and cultural landscape through the mediation of Beat literature. Drawing extensively on previously unexplored archival materials from Italy and the United States, the study traces Pivano’s professional journey from her early postwar translations to her instrumental role in publishing landmark anthologies such as Poesia degli ultimi americani and Jukebox all’idrogeno. It reveals how her mediation expanded the Italian canon, introduced countercultural voices to new audiences, and challenged traditional structures within the publishing world. Rather than merely offering a biographical narrative, the book examines how translation, collaboration, and publishing practices intersected to drive cultural transformation. It brings to light the hidden networks and personal negotiations that enabled American countercultural literature to circulate across national and linguistic borders.
