This book examines small and medium states’ responses to conflict, security, development and diplomacy, owing to complicated global challenges. It also studies how small and medium states have coped with these challenges and shifts. It also examines at least two different positions, responses, and engagements from each country to identify the differences among various contexts, political environments and economic dynamics to understand these shifts and challenges. It will assist the readers to understand challenges and opportunities facing small and medium states when responding to the current challenges of conflicts, militarism and climate change. This gives the readers an in-depth analysis on about small and medium states’ investments on vast resources to protect their interests and increase their engagement, contribution and benefits at the political and economic levels.

Ibrahim Natil is an associate professor of international relations and diplomacy at Joaan Bin Jassim Academy and research fellow of DCU Conflict Institute at Dublin City University. Natil has published nine books, 60 articles and book chapters on the topics of international relations, development and politics, and was awarded the Chambers Prize by the Development Studies Association of Ireland (2017). Natil has been elected a council member of DSA-UK for a three-year term in (2024-2027) and co-convenor of the NGOs in Development Study Group DSA-UK since 2018.
