This volume offers a variety of case studies dealing with sustainable agriculture in Southern Africa. Agriculture plays a central role in Southern Africa’s developmental trajectory. It is an anchor for rural development and livelihood security, contributing significantly to GDP and shaping the economic wellbeing of the region. The sector employs a significant portion of the population and contributes significantly to eradicating poverty (SDG 1), fighting hunger (SDG 2), promoting health and well-being (SDG 3), and fostering economic development (SDG 8). In many respects, agriculture forms the backbone of the region’s quest to ensure climate resilience and offers several avenues for climate change mitigation and adaptation. Kaitano Dube (PhD) is a full professor and a Distinguished Professor at the University of South Africa focussed on aviation, tourism, sustainability and climate change.An international acclaimed and leading academic Prof Dube has published highly cited journal articles and edited international books. He has led several highly productive research projects focussing on SDGs, climate change, aviation, tourism and education. Currently an NRF C-2 researcher Prof Dube is a visiting Professor at Emirates Aviation University. He has mentored several emerging academics. Professor Dube is the founder of the International Conference on Climate Resilience, Smart and Sustainable Futures (ICCRSF). He serves as an editor for several high-impact international peer-reviewed journals

Leocadia Zhou is the Research Director at the Centre for Global Change at the University of Fort Hare, South Africa. Her research focuses on climate change vulnerability and adaptation, with particular emphasis on food, water, and energy security, rural livelihoods, and natural resource management topics. She is an accomplished scholar with more than 90 peer-reviewed publications and contributions to book chapters, technical reports, policy briefs, popular articles, and conference and workshop proceedings. Her work is grounded in transdisciplinary research and community-engaged scholarship, aimed at generating societal impact. This commitment to engaging and impactful research earned her the Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence in Community Engagement Award at the University of Fort Hare in 2016.

Dr. Shadreck Muchaku is an adjunct professor at the University of Venda and a researcher at the University of South Africa. He holds a PhD in Rural Development and specialises in interdisciplinary research at the interface of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), migration and social justice, climate resilience, indigenous knowledge systems, governance, public health, and sustainable rural development. Dr. Muchaku has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has collaborated on multidisciplinary research addressing sustainable development and environmental governance.
