Pathogenesis of Subjectivation in Post-Digital Generations
Vincenzo Maria Romeo
This book explores the processes of subjectivation that characterize post-digital generations, examining how pervasive digital environments reshape selfhood, emotional regulation, bodily experience, intimacy, and social recognition. Bringing together perspectives from psychoanalysis, psychology, psychiatry, sociology, and media studies, the volume investigates emerging forms of vulnerability and adaptation associated with social media, problematic digital use, body image, alexithymia, gender and identity-related distress, and new patterns of psychopathology.
Rather than treating digital life as an external influence, the book considers it an integral dimension of contemporary psychic and relational experience. It offers an original framework for understanding how subjectivity is reorganized in the post-digital era and provides clinicians, researchers, and students with new conceptual tools for interpreting the evolving landscape of mental health across clinical, developmental, and broader cultural contexts today.
Vincenzo Maria Romeo is a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and sexologist. He is a researcher in Dynamic and Clinical Psychology at the Department of Cultures and Societies, University of Palermo, Italy. He is also Scientific Director of the School of Specialization in Psychoanalytic and Group-Analytic Psychotherapy (SPPG) in Reggio Calabria. His research integrates clinical, psychodynamic, neuroscientific, and sociocultural perspectives, with a particular focus on subjectivation, digital mental health, psychopathology, addiction, eating disorders, emotion dysregulation, sexuality, and the psychological development of younger generations in post-digital environments.
