Vascular embolization procedures, either as stand-alone therapy or as an adjunct to other procedures such as aortic aneurysm repair, are increasing in frequency with the growth of endovascular treatments for vascular disease and the development of new embolization techniques and technology. Traditionally, many embolization procedures are performed by non-vascular surgeons; however, embolization has become a critical component in the management of many vascular problems. Despite this, many vascular surgeons do not receive a comprehensive education in embolization techniques during their training. Furthermore, many practicing vascular surgeons may lack training in associated endovascular skills necessary to become facile at embolization, such as use of microcatheters.

This book details fundamental embolization techniques and approaches that are integral to the treatment of vascular disease in current clinical practice. It covers embolization cases of common vascular abnormalities such as visceral aneurysms, vascular trauma, and venous reflux. It also presents more advanced embolization techniques including the management of endoleaks and persistent false lumen flow after endovascular repair of aortic aneurysms and dissections. The book focuses on experts detailing techniques, materials, tips, tricks and pitfalls of these various embolization types, with case examples and illustrations to guide the reader through successful completion of these cases and acquisition of knowledge in this area. The book is geared toward practicing vascular surgeons and trainees as well as physicians from other specialties who wish to augment their knowledge of vascular embolization.
