The Naked Mole Rat (Heterocephalus glaber) is one of the most remarkable mammals known to science. Known for its exceptional longevity, negligible senescence, and extraordinary resistance to cancer and many age-related diseases, this unique rodent has become a key model organism in aging and biomedical research.

The atlas Histology of the Naked Mole Rat (Heterocephalus glaber) is the first comprehensive histological and histopathological reference devoted entirely to this species. Based on decades of research conducted in the unique naked mole-rat colony established under the direction of Professor Vladimir P. Skulachev, a pioneer in mitochondrial biology and aging research, this volume is dedicated to his memory and scientific legacy.

Because the naked mole rat has numerous morphological and physiological features that differ significantly from those of conventional laboratory rodents, standard histological references are often inadequate. This atlas fills this gap by providing a systematic visual and descriptive guide to the normal and pathological anatomy of the species.

With hundreds of original microscopic images, detailed descriptions of tissue preparation and staining methods, concise reviews of the scientific literature, and previously unpublished observations, the book provides an authoritative resource for researchers and practitioners alike. It covers laboratory husbandry of the naked mole rat, all major organ systems, comparative pathology, and morphologic markers of tissue integrity during aging.

Bridging classical morphology and modern longevity science, this atlas is an essential reference for biologists, pathologists, veterinarians, gerontologists, and researchers investigating the mechanisms of longevity, disease resistance, regenerative biology, and healthy human aging.
