The Philosophy of Republicanism from Ancient Greece to the Modern Era
Lazar Atanasković | George Hristov | Nevena Jevtić | Stanko Vlaški
This volume presents the history of republican ideas from ancient Greece to the present. It emphasizes the importance of understanding the political community as a common good and a public affair. Readers of this volume will learn about the origin and development of republicanism across different social and political contexts and historical eras, including ancient Greece, the Roman Empire, the Medieval era, Renaissance thought, and Modern philosophy. They will come to understand the concepts and criticisms of the republic in the 20th century, and current debates on neo-republicanism, and contemporary republican political theory. Interdisciplinary in scope, this book is of interest to students and scholars in political philosophy and political theory, as well as the general reader interested in tracing the history of the modern republic.
