The Ethically Conscious University examines how universities can understand and enact their responsibilities as moral institutions committed to social justice, sustainability, human flourishing, and the common good. Across seven interconnected dimensions—critical consciousness, praxis, reflexive dialogue, decolonial orientation, caring ethics, eco-critical perspective, and human empowerment—the book explores how ethical responsibility can shape university teaching, research, institutional cultures, community engagement, and global partnerships. Moving between theory and educational practice, the book challenges predominantly economic and instrumental understandings of higher education and proposes a more socially responsible vision of the university.

Emiliano Bosio is Professor of Global Education at Meiji University, Toyo University, and Sophia University in Japan, and Director of the Global Citizenship Education Interview Series on YouTube, where he convenes influential scholars and educators to advance international dialogue across global, international, and comparative education. The series has built a global community of more than 70,000 subscribers, connecting educators, practitioners, and leaders from schools, universities, and international institutions, including UNESCO. His scholarship has advanced values-based, critical, and ethical approaches to global citizenship education, with particular emphasis on sustainability and the common good. Bosio is the author and editor of numerous books and volumes, including New Conversations on Global Citizenship Education (Routledge, 2025), Ethical Global Citizenship Education (Cambridge University Press, 2024), Value-Creating Education (Routledge, 2024), The Emergence of the Ethically Engaged University (Palgrave Macmillan, 2023), and Global Citizenship Education in the Global South (Brill, 2022).
