Trade for Development
Towards a Research, Evidence and Innovation Agenda, with Implications for Canada
Yiagadeesen Samy
Open Access book: Global trade is at a turning point. Rapid technological change, geopolitical tensions, rising protectionism, the clean-energy transition and shifting supply chains are reshaping trade and making established pathways to growth more challenging, particularly for developing economies. Drawing on studies from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and the Middle East, this volume examines these transformations and identifies policies, partnerships and investments that can help trade remain a driver of inclusive and sustainable development. It also considers the implications for Canada, including its role in supporting developing economies and opportunities to diversify trade and investment amid growing US protectionism.
Yiagadeesen Samy is Professor of International Affairs and Director of the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (NPSIA) at Carleton University. He serves as an Expert for the African Knowledge Network, Office of the Special Advisor on Africa, United Nations Under-Secretary General. Professor Samy is a series editor for Palgrave's Canada and International Affairs. He has published several books, edited volumes and journal articles on African economic development, domestic resource mobilization, foreign aid, fragile and conflict-affected states, deindustrialization and income inequality, small island developing states, and trade and development. Professor Samy holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Ottawa.
