Vibroacoustics of Multiple-plate Glazed Structures

Stanisław Pietrzko | Qibo Mao

Technology & Engineering / Acoustics & Sound

This book offers a comprehensive treatment of structural acoustics, bridging fundamental principles of vibroacoustic coupling with advanced applications in noise and vibration control. It explores the design and implementation of piezoelectric acoustic sensors and actuators for glazing systems, demonstrating active control strategies for acoustic pressure fields and structural components including beams, plates, and multilayer glazing. The book presents detailed analytical and experimental investigations of sound transmission through triple-glazed structures, providing robust vibroacoustic models and unique experimental datasets covering a range of glass dimensions, thicknesses, and air-gap configurations. Experimental modal analysis using scanning laser vibrometry is employed to validate the proposed models, while the concluding chapters focus on innovative techniques for actively tuning and enhancing the acoustic performance of triple-glazed systems. Combining theoretical foundations, modeling approaches, and experimental validation, this volume serves as a valuable resource for researchers, engineers, and practitioners working in acoustics, vibration, and building technologies.

Stanisław Pietrzko is a retired scientist. His primary professional engagements were with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), the Automatic Control Laboratory (IfA), and the EMPA in Dübendorf. His professional career commenced at the AGH University of Kraków. He holds a Doctor of Science (DSc) and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from ETH. His research encompasses the domains of sound transmission and radiation, active noise and vibration control, machine tool chatter vibration damping, and the modelling and modal field test-ing of large, full-scale engineering structures such as bridges, dams, and buildings.

Qibo Mao is Full Professor at the School of Aircraft Engineering, Nanchang Hangkong University, China. His research focuses on sound and vibration control, structural acoustics, smart materials, adaptive acoustic and vibration absorbers, vibroacoustic systems, and vibration-based damage detection. His work encompasses both theoretical and applied aspects of active noise and vibration control in engineering structures.
