Thomas Oebbecke

Architecture / Sustainability & Green Design

Climate change and the construction Industry: Challenges and solutions for a resilient future of the built environment. What impact does climate change have on construction and housing projects in urban areas, and how can cities and local authorities respond appropriately? This textbook provides a comprehensive overview of climate change, its underlying causes, and its effects on global ecosystems, as well as its far-reaching consequences for the built environment here in Europe and Germany in particular. It not only highlights the challenges but also offers practical approaches, relevant sustainability models as potential solutions, and strategies for their further development.

Thomas Oebbecke, Dipl. Ing. M. Sc. is an architect, author, and sustainability expert with more than 30 years of international experience in the built environment. As founder of the German Institute for Sustainable Real Estate Management (DIFNI), he pioneered the introduction of BREEAM and digital certification methodologies in Germany. He is a former Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) of Interboden Group and has been actively shaping the transformation towards climate-resilient and sustainable real estate throughout his professional career.
