Xuan-Kien Dang received his PhD in Control Science and Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China, in June 2012. He has held the title of Full Professor since 2025 and is currently the Head of the Science and R&D Department at Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport.
Dr. Dang has received several academic awards, including the Best Paper Award at the Conference of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport in 2018, 2023, and 2025; the Best Paper Award at the Conference on “Smart Technology Application in Industry 4.0, Smart Cities and Sustainable Development” (STAIS) in 2024 and 2025; the President Prize for Excellent Paper at the 17th Asia Maritime & Fisheries Universities Forum in 2018; and a Doctoral Scholarship from Huazhong University of Science and Technology from 2008 to 2012.
His current research interests include artificial intelligence in transportation, control theory, automation, maritime technology, underwater vehicles, optimal and robust control, and networked control systems. He has authored and co-authored numerous publications in international and national journals, conference proceedings, and technical reports, including papers indexed in ISI and Scopus databases.
Dr Dang’s research focuses on the application of artificial intelligence, robust control techniques, and optimal control algorithms to complex systems, including autonomous underwater vehicles, maritime navigation, and networked control systems. He has also participated in various institutional and national research projects and serves as a reviewer for peer-reviewed journals in control engineering and intelligent systems. In addition, Dr Dang is the Editor-in-Chief of EAI Endorsed Transactions on Transportation Systems and Ocean Engineering.
Dr. Joseph J. Kim, P.E. is Department Chair and Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering Management at California State University Long Beach. Dr. Kim spent several years as a field engineer and safety engineer. He is a registered professional engineer and holds a LEED AP BD+C certification. He is the recipient of 2011 ASCE ExCEEd New Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award, 2013 ICCEPM Best Paper Award, 2016 KSEA Chapter President Award; 2020 and 2021 USA President’s Volunteer Service Awards. His research interests include artificial intelligence applications to solve civil infrastructure systems’ optimization problems, green building materials, best sustainability practices in built environments, building information modelling, cost estimating methods, construction robotics, project delivery systems, and statistical methods for construction engineers. Dr. Kim has authored more than 100 journal articles and conference papers in high-quality engineering and scientific journals such as the ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, Journal of Green Buildings, Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, and Journal of Transportation Research Board. Dr. Kim is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), ASCE's Construction Research Council of the Construction Institute, and Korean American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA). He is a peer reviewer for many technical journals.
