The book, part of the 'Sustainable Development and Biodiversity' book series explores how different types of waste—urban, industrial, agricultural, and biomass—can be turned into valuable resources. With growing concerns about pollution and resource scarcity, this book highlights the importance of shifting from a traditional "use and throw" system to a circular economy that encourages reuse, recycling, and sustainable use of materials.
The book is divided into five sections. The first section discusses global policies, economic frameworks, and case studies that support circular waste management. The second section focuses on municipal and urban waste recovery, including plastic and electronic waste, with insights into smart city models. The third section looks at how agricultural and biomass waste can be converted into energy, fuels, and even construction materials. The fourth section covers industrial waste reuse and advanced technologies like bioelectrochemical systems and CO₂ utilization. The final section presents waste-to-energy methods, sustainability assessments, and entrepreneurship opportunities in the waste valorization space.
This book is a useful resource for students, researchers, policymakers, environmental professionals, and entrepreneurs interested in sustainable waste management. It combines theory with real-life case studies to offer practical solutions for turning waste into wealth while supporting environmental and economic goals.
