This book investigates the impact of feminist discourse, Western and Islamic, feminine consciousness, and gender identity on Iranian cinema, specifically focusing on the concept of creating a movement coined 'Iranian Feminist Film'. By analysing how filmmakers have navigated the constraints of an authoritarian state, this book seeks to understand the role Iranian feminist films have played in empowering women and reshaping their identities. Through the development of a unique cinematic language and techniques, these films have elevated the female voice and body from invisibility to visibility and agency. One of the key contributions of this study lies in its exploration of the intersection between gender dynamics in Iranian society and the technical aspects of filmmaking. By delving into the historical context of Iranian women's experiences with their bodies, sexuality, and individuality, the author sheds light on how Iranian Feminist Film, as a movement, has not only challenged traditional gender norms but also pushed the boundaries of cinematic expression. Miniature Malekpour is a film scholar, film director and researcher. She studied Visual Communication (BA), Film & Digital Image (MA), and Film Studies (MFA), and completed her PhD at the Australian National University.
