Practical Control of DC-DC Converters: Simulation and Creative Teaching with MATLAB/Simulink
A Simulation-Driven Approach to Conceptual Learning and Control Education
Roghayeh Gavagsaz-Ghoachani | Matheepot Phattanasak
This book provides a comprehensive guide to the implementation of advanced controllers—such as hysteresis, peak current, sliding mode, power, energy, and flatness controllers—on DC-DC converters using MATLAB/Simulink. It combines rigorous theoretical explanations with practical modeling techniques, offering readers both the conceptual background and the hands-on skills needed to master control design.
Each chapter integrates theory with practice by presenting Simulink implementation steps, MATLAB M-file examples, and simulation results that highlight tracking, regulation, and controller performance. Beyond its technical scope, the book also introduces creative educational approaches that have proven effective in teaching control concepts and simulation modeling to students and engineers. These methods reflect the growing importance of innovative pedagogy in engineering education, helping learners bridge the gap between abstract theory and real-world application while fostering deeper understanding through experiential learning.
Dr. Roghayeh Gavagsaz-Ghoachani is an associate professor with the Department of Renewable Energies Engineering at Shahid Beheshti University, Tehran, Iran. She earned her M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the Institut National Polytechnique de Lorraine (INPL), Nancy, France, in 2007, and her Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Université de Lorraine, France, in 2012. In addition to her role in Tehran, she maintains strong international research ties with the Université de Lorraine as a researcher with GREEN (Groupe de Recherche en Energie Electrique de Nancy) and LEMTA (Laboratoire Énergies & Mécanique Théorique et Appliquée). Dr. Gavagsaz-Ghoachani’s work focuses on the integration and reliability of modern energy systems. Her current research interests include stability studies, control of power electronics systems, renewable energy, and engineering education.
Prof. Matheepot Phattanasak is a full professor with the Department of Teacher Training in Electrical Engineering at King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), Thailand. He developed his academic foundation in Thailand before pursuing advanced research in Europe. His educational background includes: B.Sc. and M.E. in Electrical Engineering: King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology North Bangkok (KMITNB), 1996 and 2004 and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering: Université de Lorraine, Nancy, France, 2012. As an active contributor to the global engineering community, Prof. Phattanasak holds the grade of IEEE Senior Member, a distinction reflecting significant professional maturity and experience. His work bridges the gap between high-level technical research and the training of the next generation of electrical engineering educators.
