Technology for Society comprises selected papers from the tenth Research and Industrial Conclave, Synergy’25, held at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati from 10–12 October 2025.
The volume presents research on the role of technology in addressing societal challenges across eight interconnected themes: disaster resilience and early warning systems; drones for emergency response; sustainable finance, green technologies, and responsible innovation; fintech, digital markets, regtech, and business transformation; technology, governance, and public policy; digital cultures, behavior, and society; edtech and assistive technologies; and indigenous knowledge systems.
The book is intended for researchers, academics, practitioners, policymakers, entrepreneurs, development professionals, and students interested in technology-driven approaches to sustainable and inclusive societal development.
Dr. Kuldeep Baishya has been working as an Assistant Professor at School of Business, IIT Guwahati since September, 2022. He is a Ph.D from Indian Institute of Management Shillong and a B.Tech in Information Technology from North-Eastern Hill University. Before joining PhD programme in Management, he had been working in software industry for 2.5 years. Dr. Kuldeep has published some of his research papers in reputed journals. He worked as an Assistant Professor at Indian Institute of Management Rohtak before joining Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. His research interests include Marketing Management, Marketing Research, Marketing Analytics, Consumer Behavior, Technology Adoption, and Technology for Bottom of the Pyramid. Dr. Baishya has experience of conducting several Management Development Programmes and consulting projects.
Dr. Shakuntala Acharya is presently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Design at IIT Guwahati, engaged in supporting design of Smart Cities, Products and Systems. She has a background in Architecture and a PhD from Dept of Design and Manufacturing, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. Her research lies at the helm of Design for Sustainability, Creativity, Design methodology and pedagogy, all of which are strongly rooted in exploring and championing varied stakeholder dynamics through co-creation for social impact. Shakuntala is the co-editor of the book by Springer, titled ‘The Future of Design Education’, and the author of ‘Societal and Global Impact’ - an AICTE textbook for engineering students. She is also actively involved with taking workshops and training for capacity building in Design Thinking and Problem-based Learning, and is a founding mentor of the Indian Design Research Summer/Winter School, under the aegis of the DeScIn Academy.
Dr. Ajay Dashora is working as Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Guwahati from 2015, where he is leading Geoinformatics (Engineering Survey) discipline. He received his MTech and PhD from IIT Kanpur in 2005 and 2013, respectively. Since then, he has been teaching and research in different areas of Geomatics, which cover Engineering Survey and precision remote sensing technologies (LiDAR, Photogrammetry). He is also associated with the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Sustainability (SISaS). His major research areas are airborne data acquisition and terrestrial data acquisition for 3D mapping. In addition, for any geospatial project or application, he provides solutions in many dimensions including ' project requirements', conceptualization of data acquisition', 'generation of specifications', 'methodology development’, ‘execution strategy in field for data acquisition', and 'proof of the concepts'. His research interests include solving social problems like land fragmentation, flash floods, urban traffic, climate change, bridge health etc by identifying appropriate data acquisition technology (classical techniques, remote sensing techniques, UAV) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
