Social Science / Demography

This book focuses on aging issues in China, explores the development path of elderly care with Chinese characteristics, and strives to build a theoretical framework for China’s elderly care system. It aims to propose Chinese solutions to the global challenge of aging and attempts to make unique theoretical contributions to worldwide elderly care development. Drawing on theories from social security studies, public administration, public economics, and political science, this book examines various aspects of China’s elderly care system, including home-based care, community-supported home-based care, institutional care, support for phychological wellbeing for the elderly, the impact of population aging, and international experience in pension security. It analyzes existing problems in China’s elderly care system and provides policy recommendations to improve the accessibility of elderly care services and social security, incorporating insights from global best practices. Additionally, it summarizes the historical experiences of China’s elderly care mechanisms, presenting a compelling narrative of the country’s progress in pension security development. The targeted readers are professional researchers, educators, students, public policymakers, and practitioners in aging studies, social security, elderly care studies, and related fields. The uniqueness of the book lies in its cross-disciplinary and specialized research on this critical issue of aging and elderly welfare. Based on a multi-disciplinary theoretical foundation, it covers core topics in the field of social policy, involving multiple disciplines such as social security studies, economics, sociology, public administration, demography, and ethics of science and technology.
