Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) in Practice
Ultrasound Skills Made Easy
Suresh Paranjothy
This book covers numerous aspects of point of care ultrasound (POCUS) relevant to perioperative care, critical care medicine, internal medicine and emergency medicine. It goes beyond the basics to cover diverse POCUS applications such as VExUS, advanced hemodynamic assessment and rescue transesophageal echocardiography.
Chapters use the I-AIM (Indications, Acquisition, Interpretation and Medical Management) framework, where possible, as first described by Dr. David Bahner, to provide readers with a comprehensive and structured approach to learning any POCUS application. Each chapter covers a specific perioperative POCUS application. It features clinical cases where POCUS has proven invaluable in diagnosis and guiding medical management. Each topic is supported by color labelled sketches, illustrations and ultrasound images to allow readers to grasp essential imaging and interpretation concepts. Additionally, the book offers video clips of ultrasound images to better appreciate commonly encountered pathology.
This book serves as a valuable resource for anesthesia postgraduates and students preparing for certification exams in perioperative POCUS, adult critical care ultrasound and POCUS for general medicine (internists). It also serves as a useful guide for anesthesiologists, intensivists, internists, emergency medicine (trainees and specialists) while practicing POCUS on the wards, clinics, operating rooms and in critical care settings.
