And though these statistics place Stallone in the mere 0.1% of actors with over 100 credits, making him one of cinema's most enduring icons and only the third man in film history to have received Oscar nominations in the screenwriting and acting categories-an achievement he shares with Orson Welles and Charlie Chaplin-he remains an under-explored figure in the academic classroom.

This book comprises three sections: "How He Works," a section covering the motifs of masculinity, self-parody, and the working-class that is ever-present in Stallone's milieu; "Early Works," that includes analysis of some of his earliest and mid-career screenplays and acting roles; and "Later Works" and his current incarnations as a septuagenarian action-hero, scripted-TV star, and reality-TV star.
